Frequently Asked Questions
- What is an Element?
- Element: An element is most basic piece of the organization and discovery piece on Dockonus. Right now, an element could be an image, document or a quick note. Shortly, we will be expanding the scope to include videos, audio files, webpage screenshots and even an entire webpage. You can add elements from almost any website using the Dockon Bookmarklet or upload an element right from your computer.
In recent times, we have experienced that some sites do not allow the Docklet to work by disabling the factors that a bookmarklet uses. We are working to figure out a solution for that. - What is a Deck?
- Deck: You can organize the elements they way you like and easily create collections of elements called a “Deck”. A Deck is the space for you to organize your elements easily and intuitively. The visual representation means no time wasted in figuring out how to organize and then waste more time trying to find your stuff. A single look and you are good to go.
- What does "Dock on" mean?
- The process of adding an Element to a Deck is 'to Dock On'. You can ‘Dock On’ elements on a Deck from any website using the Docklet or directly from your computer.
- What does Redocking mean?
- ReDocking simply means adding an element that already exists on Dockon*us to your own Deck. You can do this simply by clicking on the Re-Dock button on an element. Your followers would then see the element on their own Home page feed.
- How can I discover new content on Dockon*us?
- Dockon*us has been designed so that you are able to discover exciting, new content with incredible ease. Experts and enthusiasts on various topics will share the most amazing content on Dockon*us for you to explore. The content is organized by categories and when you decided to follow a Deck or a user the content from that Deck or User is automatically added to your Home page stream.
- What is a Public Deck and a Private Deck?
- A Public Deck is the one where the Deck and all its elements are visible to everyone. This is a primary way for you to share the content you want with everyone around the world. This allows you to showcase your work, your choices and the content that you feel would be of use to others.
A Private Deck is the one where the Deck and its elements are visible only to the people you select. You can use this type of Deck to plan your travel, Manage a project with your colleagues, organize an event for a small group of people or create a shared space for organizing your research. The people you decide to collaborate with on a Private Deck can see the Deck as well as add new elements, comment on your and other collaborators elements and add tags etc. - Can I make a Private Deck into a Public Deck and vise-versa?
- Yes, you can easily make a Private Deck into a Public Deck by selecting the option in your Deck Settings. However, you cannot make a Public Deck into the Private Deck because many people might have already seen and Redocked the elements from your Public Deck and that content is already out in the public.
- What are the types of elements that I can create?
- You can create the following types of elements:
- Images both from website and from your desktop (In all formats, which will be converted into jpeg format)
- Documents - MS Word, Excel, and Power Point and pdf’s
- Notes
- Video links
- Audio Files
- Entire Webpages
- Screenshots of webpages
- Why do I see elements that I have not ‘Docked On’ in my Page after Login?
- Our intention is to allow you to discover great content as well as organize and collaborate on the content you love. That is why we show content from various resources including from the Decks and Users you are following, Deals and Events going on in the town and others to give you the opportunity to discover things that you might otherwise miss. Our algorithms over a period of time learn your preferences and we populate the content that you like
- How can I get the latest events?
- The events of your locality can be seen under the events section. Just go to events section which is listed in the header section of Dockon*us and get the latest events. The events will be shown as per your location settings in the account settings section. If you have not updated the location you will get the worldwide events on the page.
- What is the copyright of the content provided?
- We respect content sources by ensuring everything you collect remains attributed to its creator. We believe in copyright and will strive to reconcile the rights of copyright holders with the rights of the individual. If you upload an image on Dockon*us then it is implied that it owns to you or if shared by other party so it will belong to the original owner of the image. A same criterion is with the other content. The deals and events are also owned by the original website. Dockon*us takes no responsibility of the content uploaded or shared on it by its users.
- Does every Element needs to be Docked on a Deck?
- Yes, right now all your elements need to be Docked onto a particular Deck.
- What Is Following? Why should I follow someone or someone’s Deck?
